'As
I sort through my wood to find the perfect piece
for a handle, I am amazed at the amount of
quality material that has come from you,
especially in my [native] Australian timbers. I
just wanted to thank you for that contribution
to my efforts. Also, yours is the only wood that
is consistently dry, flat, and well prepared,
and that saves me loads of time!'

Wood Reference Guide
Diospyros ebenum [Ebony,
Ceylon Ebony, Black Wood, Black Ivory]
Ceylon ebony is one of the worlds finest and blackest woods. It is rarely seen in
the market today. Check it out and you will see - there is nothing else
quite like it. The wood is extremely dense grained, hard, and heavy.
Ceylon ebony polishes like glass. Older trees provide the best color.
Heart checks and most cracks happen
while the tree is alive and are common to the species, but once dried,
it becomes one of the worlds most stable woods. It is used in
making the finest hand tools, musical instrument parts, box
parts, game pieces, pool cues and for the visual arts. Large
clear sizes of Ceylon ebony are uncommon.
